Today, Dear Seattle are stoked to announce that they have signed to a brand new label under the fearless leadership of Violent Soho's James Tidswell.
The label, named 'Domestic La La', is part of the UNIFIED Label Group, and will be guiding Dear Seattle through their future releases with the knowledge and experience Tidswell has gained during his hugely successful career in Violent Soho, along with one of Australia's most celebrated independent companies - UNIFIED.
Dear Seattle will also be releasing their Self-Titled EP on vinyl for the first time ever. Pre-order here.
[Dear Seattle vocalist Brae Fisher] "Domestic La La (DLL) is nothing like any other label I have heard of. The numerous and lengthy chats I've had with Tids have got me seriously convinced this is something special. To me it feels like the kind of label that will be remembered for decades because it went against the grain. James and DLL are so heavily invested in the idea of pure integrity in music and genuine unadulterated artistry, and because of that fact, I've never felt more liberated as a songwriter than I do now. The big picture vision that James and this label have is so critical to the current alternative scene and I can't express how happy I am to be with it from the get go.
I first met Tids at the Lord Gladstone for a few frothies a few months back. As soon as I walked in and saw him at the bar I just pat him on the back and gave him a hug as he turned around and we instantly just started chatting like old mates, despite having never met haha. The dude just has that essence about him. He was instantly family.
To put things into perspective, upon negotiating our record contract with DLL we added a clause that said Tids had to smash 750ml of VB through a beer bong, and he did it like a champion.
If that's not family, I don't know what is.
The key thing I've taken from him about his experience in industry is that it doesn't have to be fast and it doesn't have to be now, it has to be right. The industry is so cluttered with people trying to 'cut through' these days that it is a true breath of fresh air to find someone who celebrates true realness and integrity."
You may recall Tidswell was spotted at BIGSOUND rocking out and singing along to every word of Dear Seattle's set - and here's what he had to say about signing the Sydney-based four piece:
[James Tidswell] "G'day, I'm James Tidswell. I play guitar in Violent Soho and I just started a label called Domestic La La Records. The name itself comes from a Violent Soho song, and I'm using it as a record label name because it is "Domestic" as in Australia, and "La La" as in music.
A friend sent me Dear Seattle when there was just one song out from the self-titled EP and on the first listen, my jaw dropped. I was sitting by myself at my dining room table, and I put it on repeat. It was right before I was going out, so it was like my own personal pre-drinks party. I was so amped up that I cancelled my Uber and found their email address straight away. I fell in love instantly, and I ended up being late to the dinner I was going to. I've been to every show since, I'm just smitten.
We are releasing their EP on vinyl. Pre order it here.
And, for the record, I don't think they sound like Violent Soho at all."
Signing the contract in Sydney recently, Dear Seattle also made sure to include a personalised condition (see excerpt below), stating that all parties were to complete a 750ml VB beer bong together before the contract was validated. All parties complied.
