Next week people around the world will come together from 6th to 8th October to make a noise about the plight of the West Papuan people. For the 2nd year, Rockin’ For West Papua global peace concerts will be held in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain, The Netherlands, England and Scotland, with more than 20 shows in Australia alone!


With genres ranging from reggae, RnB, country and heavy metal to hip-hop, DJ’s and Aussie rock – more that 100 artists performing at over 25 gigs - it is going to be LOUD!


West Papua is Australia’s closest neighbour and in our own backyard more than 500,000 West Papuans have been murdered and they daily face the threat of being punished with 15 years jail simply for flying their own flag.

KESTRAL R4WP17 CASTLEMAINE – has developed his own individual style influenced by Blues, Techno, Ragas and Western Classical music. His complex percussive style of guitar playing utilises modes and pentatonic scales in solo improvisation, creating rhythms using harmonics and string buzz and the use of sweep picking over barre-chords. Kestral’s original songs are adorned with harmonic singing, and share insight of the collective dreaming.

SEAN McMAHON R4WP17 AUCKLAND#2 – Largely inspired by the American songbook, its traditions and its champions, Melbourne’s Sean McMahon’s poetic and melodic style of songwriting is loaded with confessional narratives and vivid story telling that explore and exploit themes we may all know well, however it’s his ability to craft a song, the way he strings the words together and punctuates a line in perfect rhythm while dancing a melody across 3 chords that sets him apart.



MIRIADA R4WP17 SPAIN – experimental instrumental rock artists from Buenos Aires, using improv and sound collage as an expressive resource and frame of reference.



MISS JONES R4WP17 HOBART – is heavily influenced by early jazz, blues and a bit of 90's grunge and takes you on a emotive ride conveyed in original jazzy blues and folky tunes - all with a devilish smile.

MS. V R4WP17 CAIRNS – Cairns based singer / songwriter originally from Papua New Guinea. Discovering her love of singing from an early age, music became a part of her everyday life. Motivated from her own journey as well as the stories of others, Ms. V touches on raw emotions of love, life & loss creating an experience she likes to refers to as " music for the soul ".



MOORDITJ BROTHERS R4WP17 FREMANTLE – deliver a melting pot of unpretentious acoustic roots, rock, reggae, blues and more drawing influences from the likes of Butler, Harper and Rudd. Slide guitar offerings and pumping didge and drum instrumentals are delivered by the trio via improvised sets flooding the stage with stress less good vibes. Lets Dance!



MONKEY & THE FISH R4WP17 LISMORE - this Lismore outfit create a special vocal harmony & presence with a dynamic rhythm section, tight grooves and powerful arrangements. They present a unique repertoire with folk, roots and reggae influences with engaging and evocative lyrics which resonate themes of love and respect for family & the natural world.



MONKEYPIG R4WP17 NEWCASTLE – independent rock music from Newcastle, Australia. The music features hard rock, punk, surf, pop, stoner and old school indie elements. There is strong emphasis on vocal harmonies and melodic guitar leads and working by the principle that good music has substance that can be digested over a long time getting better like a great bottle of wine. 



MONSTER FODDER R4WP17 GOLD COAST – Hailing from the Gold Coast, this hard punk rock four piece set out to blow your ear drums. A ferocious punk rock beat and growling bass tone set the scene for the guitars to lick over the top. With Motorhead is their hearts and a rocket up their arse, watch out it’s going to get loud!
