Melbourne electro rockers, Halcyon Drive take an intelligent prod at the future of 'the human connection' today with a Black Mirror inspired video for latest single, 'The Birds'.
A deliberately open ended observation, 'The Birds' examines the way people interact with those closest everyday, particularly in an era of constant connectivity. Taking this concept a step further, director Greta Nash sweeps the viewer on a Black Mirror-esque Uber ride through the night. As each fleeting passenger endures some undisclosed issue throughout their car ride, the potential for a tumultuous progression of human interactions is emphasised. Highlighting Halcyon Drive's curiosity of the human experience through moody cityscape lighting, smooth transitions and a fly-on-the-dashboard like approach, Nash provides viewers with a delectably experiential visual accompaniment to the trials and tribulations of everyday life. It's an intentional blend of the exhilarating and the uncomfortable, leaving the viewer feeling slightly uneasy and yet also wanting more.
The first taste of the trio's debut album, 'The Birds' encapsulates Halcyon Drive's refined musical direction of the past four years. Discovering new ways of recording and songwriting for this next phase of their musical journey, Halcyon Drive migrated towards a brand new producer, laying down their new material with legendary Perth studio guru Joel Quartermain (Meg Mac, Dustin Tebbutt, ELKI). The result? A musically diverse topography contoured with bittersweet melodies and earnest observations on the human experience. The live trio take flight across eight dates up and down the East Coast in what's set to be an exciting return to the stage and a chance to soak up a small taste of the unique sonic sphere that is their upcoming debut LP, highlighted by the release of latest single and video for 'The Bird's'.
