Satellites are today rolling out new song 'Thread' and unleashing details about 'Black Dog', their new EP, produced by Troy Brady. New single 'Thread' premiered on the radio Wednesday night on triple j's Short Fast Loud, and pre-orders for the EP go live next Friday at iTunes for a Friday September 29th release date. The single will be available on Monday on Spotify.
Satellites started in late 2013. After a handful of tours and local Brisbane shows the band went through a slow patch with multiple member changes, most importantly a change in singer, where Mitch Chamberlain stepped up from guitar to vocals.
After taking some time to work on 'Black Dog' with their friend and producer Troy Brady, it became apparent that rushing into it would only lead to coming up short. Instead, they've given it some love and managed to created something they're all extremely proud of. Coming off the back of a recent headline tour with New Zealand legends, Braves and Melbourne's resident sad boys, Bukowski, with the anticipation of new music looming closely behind, "Black Dog" is finally their way to show that Satellites' trials of the past have not been in vain.
Mid 2015 saw Satellites test the waters with a new track titled "Glass Jaw" which was received rather well among the Australian scene with features on Triple J and Unearthed. In 2016, following some more unfortunate lineup changes "Sateez" (as they cheekily refer to themselves) released a 2nd track titled "Home Sweet Home" - which again was received favourably by Triple J and the public. These releases were each followed up by a plethora of heavy hitting support slots, such as Neck Deep, The Wonder Years and Knuckle Puck, The Story So Far and Man Overboard, Motion City Soundtrack, Real Friends and many more, which solidified the band's spot as a definite up-and-coming force in the Australian music scene.
Vocalist Mitch Chamberlain gave his thoughts on how the single's themes and lyrics came about. "'Thread' is about my struggle to come to terms with the fact that I may just have to accept the mould that society has chosen for me. Maybe I was never presented with the opportunity, or maybe, I just didn't have the guts to do what needed to be done to get where I wanted to be. And maybe now I've run out of time."
The "Black Dog" EP was produced, recorded and mixed by Troy Brady. He was also responsible for "Glass Jaw" way back when now vocalist Mitch Chamberlain first took over on vocal duties. Like "Glass Jaw' the record was also mastered by Gareth Hargreaves and the video was shot at multiple locations around Brisbane by Jack Marshallsea from DC Film.
Single 'Thread' will be available in Spotify on Monday coming and the 'Black Dog' EP available to pre-order in iTunes from next Friday the 18th August - to be released on Friday September 29th. For more information, go to facebook.com/SatellitesBand
