In an era where the heavy music world is flooded with Progressive Metal releases each and every week, sometimes it is hard to distinguish one act from another. The Stranger's self titled debut album certainly goes far beyond the mundane and into another stratosphere. Sure, there are hallmark sounds of the greats of the genre that can be heard on this debut album, but not as a blatant copy...more of a homage to the founders of this great sound.
From the opening eight minute masterpiece "Quantum Entanglement", right through to the final track "Into The Mire", this album keeps you captivated from the very first note. Not many bands can manage a full length record with out throwing in a few "fillers", but The Stranger have done just that...and how!
A diverse mix of songs fit together perfectly with heavy, almost death metal-esque sound ("The Whip"), beautiful instrumental ballads ("Patterns") and just plain old out n' out proggy goodness ("Solomon's Son")
Highlighted by "The Whip" and "Just The Goods", The Stranger's self titled album has already moved into Album of the Year calculations at Rogue HQ.
If you are a newcomer to Prog, or a seasoned professional, this is one album that MUST be in your collection.
