It is hard to fathom that TROJANS pretty much did not exist at this time last year. I remember seeing these guys perform in Sydney at maybe their second ever gig, and reporting that we have just witnessed the future of the metalcore scene in the country. Absolutely nothing has wavered that opinion. In fact, it has only been solidified with the release of their The Blissful Hollow EP.
The brutal, tear-your-face-off djent cross metalcore EP knocks you off your feet right from the opening track, and first single, "Dead Eyed Stare" and has no remorse in keeping you of those feet until the last notes ring out on "Mark of the Crown", in which guest vocalist Mark Poida (Aversions Crown) is given a run for his money by Jesse Vanderhurst in one of the heaviest vocal tracks in recent memory.
"Mark of the Crown"
There is something familiar with the Trojans sound that keeps you intruiged throughout the EP. The instrumental conversations between guitarists Clayton Davies and Luke Ringin are superb. Think Northlane-esque musicianship between the pair and you would be getting near the mark.
The crisp drumming by skinsman Aaron Giles is the difference in making "Faux Wolf" a great track into an epic one.
This EP flows beautifully from beginning to end, highlighted by the djent-ladden "Disillusioned".
As much as I love this EP, my gut feel is that the live setting is where this bad boy is going to shine.
Prepare your bodies...this one is gonna get BRUTAL.
